Project 1 - Audio Dubbing

Before we start on audio dubbing, Mr Martin said we need to identify what kind of sounds needed and document them in excel sheet.

Fig 1.1
After documenting, I went to sound library to search the relevant sounds, such as footsteps, car ambience.

Next, I moved on to premiere pro, import all the sound effects and put them into the video manually.

For the dialogue, I recorded my own voice and change the pitch and speed to change the tone.
For the male voice, I need to control the pitch in order to decrease the tone.
To control the pitch in premiere pro : effect control > pitch shifter

Fig 1.4 Working layer in Premiere Pro

For female, I just increase the speed of the voice.
To control the speed : Click the video in sequence panel > right click > speed/duration

For the rest of the sound effects, I control the volume to create the contrast
To adjust the volume : click the sound in sequence panel > click "]" (increase) / "[" ( decrease)

Project 1 - Sound shaping

For sound shaping, we were tasked to add sound effects in different situations :
  • phone call
  • toilet
  • Inside closet
  • Cave
In this task we have to use Adobe Audition, and apply the rack effect by adjusting the value under parametric equalizer. To adding the echos on the sound, we can adjust the value under revert.

REFLECTION

The most challenging part of the audio dubbing is finding the right sound effects. Although there are many sounds in internet, it is hard to find the sound that synchronised with the video. Throughout the project, I downloaded multiple sounds and compare them while editing. However, I learnt sound editing in premiere pro. By adjusting the speed and pitch, it produced different sound. However, I realised that I add sound effects to every single object, and Mr Martin said we should learn how to select the sound subjectively.

In sound shaping exercise, Adobe Audition software was difficult tool for me. In the lecture video, it said that we can adjust the atmosphere and pitch using the graphs, but I could not really find the difference while adjusting. To my surprise, it is easier to add the echos at the sound using the software, however, I need more study and practice in order to get familiarised with it.
