Why should I do research?
  • Expands understanding and knowledge of  the academic field
  • Establish valuable connections
  • Gain academic experiences
  • Develop critical thinking, leadership, time management, and communication skills
  • Explore research techniques
How should start?

Problem statement
A concise description of an issue to be addressed or a condition to be improved upon. It identifies the gap between the current (problem) state and desired (goal) state.

Research Question : an answerable inquiry into a specific concern or issue.

Research Objective : what we expect to achieve by a project. It may be linked with a hypothesis or used as a statement of purpose in a study that does not have a hypothesis.

Hypothesis : a tentative statement about the relationship between two or more variables.
(* it does not have to be correct)

Variables : something that can be changed or varied, such as a characteristic or value.

Week 3

Research
  • organised and systematic study of a problem where the researcher attempts to address or find solution to the problem
  • specific questions and clearly defined objectives.
Research Problem
  • An answerable inquiry into a specific concern or issue
  • Influences the strategy that is employed in order to provide answers to questions or hypothesis
Research Objective
  1. What a researcher expects to accomplish by the end of a research project
  2. Derived from a problem statement
  3. Clear, concise and declarative statement
  4. Focused on the ways to measure the variables (eg. identify or describe)
SMART
  • S - Specific
  • M - Measurable
  • A - Attainable
  • R - Realistic
  • T - Time bound

Inductive approach (when there is little to no existing literature on a topic)
  1. Observation
  2. Observe a pattern
  3. Develop a theory
Deductive approach
  1. Start with an existing theory
  2. Formulate a hypothesis based on that theory
  3. Collect data to test that theory
  4. Analyse the results: does the data reject or support the hypothesis?

Week 3
General Feedback : For reference, no thesis or book, because we don’t have time to read. Find the articles that has around 15 pages.

Specific Feedback : -

Week 4

REFLECTION

Week 2
I had a difficulty choosing the topic that related to digital animation because I was scared that my topic would clash with others. Also, it was challenging to start the rational. I scribble down the points and read about writing a rationale.

Week 3
All my references are more than 15 pages which are not able to finish them in a given time. Also, it was challenging to decide whether the articles are really related to my topic.

Week 4
As I kept changing the words for the proposal, I was rushing on the last day of the submission. I used grammarly to check my grammar. On the instruction, the design of the powerpoint slide would be related to the topics that we chose, thus, I took a long time to decide what are the elements that describe the sound.
