TASK

Week 11

We are tasked to create stop motion animation that contain social awareness or other interesting story.
Since I am working individually, Mr Martin said I can work up to 30 second animation. For the topic, I focused on the litter issues

I inspired from fig 1.4 stop motion animation, and I decided to do paper cut animation.

Pre-Production
I did research how paper cut animation made, and I found that in actual studio, they make same faces with different expression. Hence, I followed them by making several faces and draw the facial expressions.

However, when I filmed, I find that stop motion seems boring as the main character only have 3 expression and cannot move the eyeballs. So, I made more faces, separate the eyeballs, and made additional eyes ; closed eyes.

These are the final props and characters that going to use for stop motion.

Week 13
I decided to film the stop motion at my room, as I have a tripod with a light. When I set the filming studio, I turn off my room light, and adjust the tripod lighting. There are many colours, light orange colour and blue colour.

After the exploration, I decided to use blue light, as it fits to my mood board.

Week 14

In premiere pro

I transferred all the files into Adobe Premiere Pro to edit. I divided the photos into 9 folders and imported them into the Sequence layer.

I search in freesound.org, to grab ocean sound and water splash and added them accordingly.

For underwater scene, I did the colour correction by adding the blue tone and increase the contrast.

For the title slate, I use Futura Std and make letter 'k' into the fishing rod.

FEEDBACK

Week 11 : The first part of the storyboard is boring. It is wasting time of watching fishing and eating only. Add more actions to the main character to make the animation for liveable.

REFLECTION

I really enjoyed this project. I had an experience in stop motion animation, but it was only 10 seconds. This time, I am targeted to create 30 second of animation, and satisfied with the outcome of the animation. I went through many trials while shooting, because the brightness of my phone keep changing, and lead to flickering effect when I compile all the images into the video. It was challenging to film and moving the character at once. Sometimes I get lazy and take less frames in several shot, as a result, the animation was not smooth and the action was really fast, hence I had to retake the same shots and remind myself to move the objects bit by bit.
