TASK

Week 5

For project 1, we are tasked to create an audio image using combination provided. For this task, I choose market place. Before we start with searching the sounds, we had to write down the scenario in descriptive way.

Fig 1.1 Auditory script

Based on the script, I divided the story in to four scene
  1.  Scene 1 : Entering the shop and shopping at the fruit area
  2.  Scene 2 : Passing by the diary area, receive message from mother
  3.  Scene 3 : Going to the can drink corner, and accidentally drop bunch of cans
  4.  Scene 4 : Shoppers are coming by, and running away from the incident with embarrassment
By diving the scene, it is more clearer to decide what sound effects needed.

Week 6

Based on the collected sound resources, I imported the files into the Adobe Audition, and aligned them according to the scenes.

Fig 1.3 Clips arrangement

Firstly, I worked with the sound coming from the speaker, which is announce bell and door bell. I added Parametric Equalizer and decrease both bass and treble to produce a muffled sound. Then, I controlled the volume bar to create fade in effect.

Similar to the ambience sound, I create multiple layer of ambience of people talking, aircon hum and fridge humming sound. I played with the volume and pan to create fade in and fade out, when the shopping cart is walking through different corners.

Fig 1.7 ambience sound

For the highlight scene, which is can dropping, I cannot find the stack of the can drinks dropping down, so I had to download multiple can dropping sounds, and multiply the sounds by layers. I created the faded out with the volume to show that the can is rolling away from the character.

Week 7

Based on the feedback, the first few seconds seems empty, and recommended to add more ambience sound for market. After consideration, I decided to add passer by shopping carts, opening and closing door of the fridge, and announcement from the speaker.

For the announcement, I made same process as the chime bell. However, I cannot find the suitable dialogue for market announcement, hence, I downloaded random voice record and lower the treble and bass more to sound muffle.

Last scene is running away from the market with embarrassment, so I duplicated the walking sound and increase its speed by playing with pitch and stretch.

FEEDBACK

Week 5 : Story is okay, but need to think about extra sound to fill up the environment, such as aircon humming.

Week 7 : Can dropping sound is too loud, and the first few second seems boring because it is too quit. Maybe add the voice announcement, and people ambience like children running.

REFLECTION

It takes a long time to find the sound from the online. I have to download multiple similar sound track, and compare. Also, it was challenged me to fill up the ambience sound. I was scared that it disturb with main character's movement, so I used less ambience noise at first. However, I feel that it is boring and researched with various market sound. This journey was really time consuming and tedious. But, I feel that I have better understanding with Adobe Audition.
